One of the keys to success in the short term rental (STR) market is understanding the comprehensive STR or vacation rental regulations of the city or town where you plan to invest. STR Regulations

The city of Myrtle Beach, SC does have vacation rental regulations in place for STRs. In June 2015 a business license ordinance went into effect. The ordinance requires a business license for ALL rental properties, including short-term rentals. They consider any rental of less than 90 days to be short term. See more details below.

A business license is required to rent on a short term basis. They also have a Hospitality Fee of 1% fee that is imposed on transient accommodations and a Local Accommodations Tax which is a one-half percent (.5%) tax on short-term or transient accommodations.
