One of the keys to success in the short term rental (STR) market is understanding the comprehensive STR or vacation rental regulations of the city or town where you plan to invest. Zoning restrictions, registration, permit or licensing requirements, and taxes vary widely. Search to see how your city or town may be affected.

STR Regulations

Yes, the city of Breckenridge passed an ordinance for vacation rental regulations, also called short term rentals or STRs. Nicknamed the "BOLT Ordinance" or "Town of Breckenridge’s Business and Occupational Licenses and Tax Ordinance", Breckenridge requires that property owners of short term rentals to obtain a license. See more details on the City link below.

Zoning Restrictions

Beginning on November 1, 2021, Breckenridge will begin to enforce a cap on non-exempt short term rental units. Once this cap goes into effect, applications for short term rental licenses for non-exempt units will be placed on a waitlist, on a first come, first served basis.

Permit or License

A business license is required to rent on a short term basis. Owners must also adhere to special advertising requirements and remit sales and accommodations taxes.
